OAK-WSU #HLMBB Game to Air on ESPN2
INDIANAPOLIS – The Oakland-Wright State men’s basketball game scheduled for Friday, Feb. 18 has been selected to be televised on ESPN2, the League office was informed by ESPN. Game time is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET.
The game will feature two of the top teams in the Horizon League this season as Oakland and Wright State currently sit in second and third place in the HL standings, respectively.
This marks the third ESPN linear game for the Raiders this season and the second on the road as WSU is scheduled to face Milwaukee this Friday on ESPNU at 7 p.m. ET. Wright State currently sits at 11-4 in Horizon League play and is coming off a weekend sweep of the HL’s Michigan schools at home. WSU currently ranks as the No. 1 scoring offense during Horizon League play at 78.5 points per game and it is the only HL team to be shooting over 50 percent from the floor. The Raiders are also the only team in the League to showcase multiple players inside the top-5 in scoring during HL play as Tanner Holden ranks second with 20.7 points per game, followed by Grant Basile with 17.7 points per game, good for fourth.
The Golden Grizzlies sit in second place in the HL standings at 9-3 as they currently rank second during Horizon League play in scoring at just over 77 points per game. Jamal Cain is the only player to average a double-double during #HLMBB play with 17.6 points and 10.3 boards per game. In addition, Trey Townsend is sixth during Horizon League play in scoring at 17.1 points, while Jalen Moore leads the League with 8.6 assists and adds 15.6 points against HL opponents. This marks the first ESPN linear game for Oakland this season and its first during the HL regular season since Jan. 3, 2020.
This is the final Horizon League regular season game that will be televised on ESPN’s linear networks and is a part of the League’s “Anything Can Happen on Friday” campaign that fans can follow along on social media by using #HLMBBonESPN.
Continuing a relationship that began during the 2014-15 season, ESPN+ will be the home for the League’s live streaming game content. The Horizon League has scheduled to stream every conference basketball game for an industry-best 15 consecutive seasons, beginning its streak in 2007 with the groundbreaking Horizon League Network. In addition, ESPN has aired every men’s basketball championship game dating back to the 1988 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Championship.
