INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky’s Manny Vorhees hit .417 for the week, including a 3-for-5 effort in the series opening win against the reigning national champions to take home Nike #HLBASE Batter of the Week, while UIC’s Nate Peterson earns his second-straight Nike #HLBASE Pitcher of the Week after allowing just one earned run over 6.2 innings of work with eight strikeouts in a win at Cal as the Horizon League announced its baseball weekly honors on Tuesday.

Playing on the road at No. 7 and the reigning national champions Mississippi State, Vorhees helped lead the Norse to a series opening win over the Bulldogs, 7-6. The junior went 3-for-5 in the game with two doubles, two runs scored and drove in another. His RBI-single in the third inning got the Norse on the board in the third inning and later came around to score to help put them up 3-2. In the seventh inning he led off the frame with a double down the left field line and scored on a bases loaded walk to give NKU a three-run lead. For the week, Vorhees slashed .417/.500/.667 with five hits and three runs scored.

Nate Peterson | UIC | Redshirt Sophomore | Left-Handed Pitcher | Lakeville, Minn.
For the second consecutive week, Peterson dazzled on the mound for the Flames. In UIC’s series opener at Cal, Peterson struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while allowing just two runs, one earned, on five hits while giving up no walks. Peterson struck out a pair of batters in the first, third, and fourth innings while adding punch outs in the fifth and sixth to collect his first win with the Flames. The victory helped propel UIC to a series win over the Pac-12 foe. Opposing hitters had a collective .063 batting average against the redshirt sophomore, who now has a 1.32 ERA and 21 strikeouts over his first two starts of the season.
