INDIANAPOLIS – The 2022 Keeps Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship continues with semifinal action on Monday, March 7 as four teams look to #REACHtheHORIZON in Indianapolis.
#HLWBB NEWS & NOTES
• In this week’s College Insider Women’s Mid-Major Top 25, IUPUI moved up to No. 10, Youngstown State ranked No. 18, Green Bay checked in at No. 24 and Cleveland State received votes.
• No. 1 seed IUPUI and No. 7 seed Oakland met twice during the regular season with the Jags earning a 74-49 win in Rochester, Mich. and a 64-56 battle in Indy.
• The Jags advanced to their fifth straight #HLWBB semifinal with a 72-41 victory over No. 8 seed RMU while the Golden Grizzlies defeated No. 10 seed Wright State in the first round on Tuesday before picking up the upset win at No. 2 seed Youngstown State in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
• No. 3 seed Green Bay and No. 4 seed Cleveland State have only faced off once this season and it came on the final day of the regular season as the Phoenix took a 66-64 win in Cleveland on Feb. 26 to earn the number three seed in the championship.
• The Phoenix defeated No. 6 seed Milwaukee 57-42 on Thursday to return to the semifinals after being upset by Cleveland State in the quarterfinals in 2021 while the Vikings secured their third straight trip to Indy for the semifinals with a 59-51 victory over No. 5 seed Northern Kentucky.
• IUPUI leads the League and ranks 14
th nationally in field-goal percentage as the Jags are shooting 45.7 percent this season. IUPUI also ranks fifth in the country in personal fouls per game (12.4) and 12
th in rebound margin (9.0). The Jags are fourth among Division I teams in three-point field goal percentage defense (24.6) and 12
th in three-point field goal percentage offensively (36.8).
• IUPUI’s Macee Williams, the first four-time #HLWBB Player of the Year in League history, ranks fifth in the country in field-goal percentage (63.5) and leads the League with 10.1 rebounds per game. Rachel McLimore is fourth nationally in free-throw percentage (92.9) while Rachel Kent leads the Jags and the League with 2.5 three-point field goals per game.
• During its current three-game win streak, Oakland is holding opponents to just 45.7 points per game, about 17.5 points fewer than its season average.
• Kahlaijah Dean paces the Golden Grizzlies with 15.4 points per game this season while Breanne Beatty adds 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
• Green Bay ranks seventh in the country in field-goal percentage defense as the Phoenix are holding opponents to 34.9 percent from the field this season. GB is also 16
th nationally in scoring defense (54.6).
• Hailey Oskey leads the Phoenix with 12.8 points per game while Meghan Pingel paces GB with 3.5 assists per game.
• Cleveland State leads the League with 70.9 points, 41.5 rebounds, 4.44 blocks and 9.56 steals per game.
• Destiny Leo paces the Vikings and all of #HLWBB with 18.6 points per game this season, also ranking fifth in the League in field-goal percentage (43.8), second in free-throw percentage (91.0) and second in three-point field goals per game (2.4).
