INDIANAPOLIS – Breck Nowik of UIC collects this week’s Nike
® #HLBASE Batter of the Week award after collecting double-digit hits last week and seven RBIs, while Northern Kentucky’s Ben Gerl earns Nike
® #HLBASE Pitcher of the Week following a 10-strikeout performance in a complete game win as the Horizon League announced its weekly baseball awards on Tuesday.

Breck Nowik | UIC | Redshirt Freshman | Infielder | Lake Forest, Ill.
Nowik had a stellar week at the plate, helping the Flames to wins over Northwestern, Northern Kentucky and Purdue Fort Wayne. Nowik slashed .611/.650/833, all tops on the team. The first baseman finished the five-game week 11-for-17 at the plate with one double, one home run and a team-leading seven RBIs. Nowik opened the week with a 2-for-4 effort in UIC’s 13-0 shutout over Big Ten foe Northwestern, recording an RBI double in the contest. The Lake Forest, Ill. native highlighted UIC’s 11-7 win over Northern Kentucky with a three-run home run in the seventh inning to pull the Flames even at 6-all. In the Flames’ doubleheader against Purdue Fort Wayne, Nowik went a combined 7-for-8 at the plate in the two games with a pair of RBIs.

Ben Gerl | Northern Kentucky | Sophomore | Left-Handed Pitcher | Joliet, Ill.
Gerl posted a phenomenal outing on the hill against UIC, tossing a complete game in the win over the Flames. Gerl finished with a season-high 10 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of just .185 while allowing only five hits and one run. He improved his overall record to 3-5 this season and is just 1-of-9 players in the Horizon League to throw a complete game this year. Additionally, he ranks 2nd in the conference in innings pitched, 7th in strikeouts 11th in earned run average and 13th in opponent batting average.
