KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Longtime Horizon League administrator Alfreeda Goff was honored on Tuesday by the Women Leaders in College Sports with its Nike Lifetime Achievement Award. After a 40-year career in college athletics, Goff has been a tireless advocate and example for women athletics administrators.

During her 19-year span at the Horizon League, Goff represented the League on the NCAA Division I Management Council from 1999 to 2004. She has also served on a number of other national committees, including the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee and Women's Basketball Issues Committee, NCAA Woman of the Year Committee, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators' Executive Committee and the NCAA Division I Track and Field Committee.

In summer 2005, Goff was honored as the Black Coaches Association's Administrator of the Year. She has served as a board member of the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association, an affiliate organization of NACDA, and has served on the NCAA's Life Work Balance Task Force and Diversity Leadership Strategic Planning Committee. Goff also was president of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators in 2004-05.

Her career included time at the University of Pittsburgh, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia State University. As the first female athletic director at Virginia State University, she led the athletics program to historical growth and success and was awarded NACWAA’s Administrator of Year Award in 1999. One of her top accomplishments is being part of the original development of Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Program at the University of Pittsburgh. She was also the first administrator at Virginia Commonwealth University to oversee men and women's sports as the coordinator for all aspects of the sports.

Throughout her career, Goff has been an advocate for women administrators, playing a founding role in the Women’s Leadership Symposium, helping young female administrators climb the ranks of athletic administration. Her active roles in Women Leaders in College Sports (formerly NACWAA), MOAA and NACDA have provided leadership and mentorship to numerous administrators.
