INDIANAPOLIS – Week 4 of #HLMBB play continued on Saturday highlighted by Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis totaling 41 points with 11 3-pointers to set the NCAA’s career 3-point record and the school’s single-game 3-point record while also moving into third place in NCAA history in scoring. Elsewhere around the League, Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State won to pull into a tie for first place in the standings, while Cleveland State and Wright State also won on the road.

Detroit Mercy 87, RMU 75

  • The Titans snapped a four-game losing skid with a win at home to improve to 3-5 in Horizon League play, while RMU dropped its second in a row to fall to 3-5.
  • Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis had a game to remember as he finished with 41 points on 11-of-18 shooting from 3-point range. The 11 3-pointers mark the school’s single-game record and was one away from the HL record. It also marks his fifth 40-point game of his career.
  • With eight 3-pointers in the first half, Davis set the NCAA’s all-time 3-point record, passing both HL alum Travis Bader and Fletcher Magee’s previous record of 509. Davis also moved into third-place on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list with 3,232 points.
  • Enoch Cheeks scored a team-high 22 points with seven rebounds for the Colonials, while Kahliel Spear added 15 points and seven boards.
  • Detroit Mercy shot over 50 percent for the first time this season during Horizon League play at 52.7 percent including going 17-for-29 from behind the arc for a 58.6 shooting percentage.
Cleveland State 89, IUPUI 54
  • Cleveland State improved to 5-2 in Horizon League with its first road victory of 2023.
  • Four CSU players finished in double figures led by Tristan Enaruna with 18 followed by Tae Williams with 16 on 8-of-9 shooting. Jayson Woodrich totaled 11 and Drew Lowder added 10.
  • John Egbuta paced IUPUI with 15 points and Chris Osten chipped in 11.
  • The Vikings shot 55.7 percent (34-61) from the floor, its highest percentage this season, and matched their season-high shooting percentage from 3-point range at 50.0 percent (10-20).
Youngstown State 85, Oakland 69
  • The Penguins won its fourth-straight game and their third consecutive HL road game to move to 6-2 in the League play, while Oakland’s five-game winning streak was snapped.
  • YSU’s Brandon Rush led all scorers with 30 points on seven 3-pointers, while Malek Green added 20 on 8-of-13 shooting. Bryce McBride chipped in 19 and Adrian Nelson registered a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards. Dwayne Cohill, the second-leading scorer during HL play coming into the day, only scored two points but contributed 11 assists and eight rebounds.
  • Jalen Moore recorded 20 points and seven assists for Oakland and Rocket Watts totaled 13 points. Blake Lampman and Trey Townsend tallied 10 points each.
  • Youngstown State led by 17 points at intermission before Oakland cut it to just four midway through the second half. The ‘Guins responded by going on a 23-7 run by shooting 10-for-11 from the floor with Rush scoring 13 of YSU’s 23 points during the stretch.
Northern Kentucky 74, Green Bay 53
  • The Norse salvaged a split of its Wisconsin road trip with the win in Green Bay to keep pace at the top of the standings at 6-2.
  • Marques Warrick led all scorers for NKU with 21 points on five 3-pointers and Chris Brandon posted his second double-double during League play with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting with 11 boards.
  • Four Green Bay players ended the game in double figures with Randy Tucker leading the team with 14 followed by Clarence Cummings III with 13, Garren Davis with 11 and Cade Meyer totaling 10.
  • Northern Kentucky recorded its fourth double-digit steal game during HL play with 12 that led to a 16-0 advantage in fastbreak points and a 21-3 lead in points off turnovers.
Wright State 78, Milwaukee 74 (OT)
  • Wright State earned its first sweep on the Wisconsin road trip since 2013 to pull to .500 during Horizon League play at 4-4. Milwaukee drops just its second HL game of the season to fall into a tie for first place at 6-2.
  • Trey Calvin and Brandon Noel led the way offensively for the Raiders as they both finished with 23 points. Calvin scored eight of WSU’s nine points in the extra period, while Noel went 9-of-12 from the floor and fell one rebound short of his fifth-straight double-double.
  • BJ Freeman recorded a team-high 20 points for the Panthers with nine rebounds and Markeith Browning II totaled 19 points and seven rebounds.
  • MKE erased a 16-point deficit in the second half to send the game to overtime, but that’s when Calvin took over for WSU shooting 4-of-5 from the floor in the extra period to give the Raiders the road win.
