INDIANAPOLIS – Week 5 of #HLMBB play tipped off on Thursday with Milwaukee, Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State winning to remain in a tie for first place, while Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne each won on the road to keep pace with the top of the standings.

Northern Kentucky 57, Cleveland State 56

  • Northern Kentucky remained on top of the Horizon League standings in dramatic fashion as Marques Warrick hit a buzzer beater from deep behind the 3-point line at the end of regulation to push NKU to 7-2 during League play. Cleveland State falls to 6-3 in HL play and one game behind first place in the standings.
  • Warrick, who celebrated his birthday today, led all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 from distance including the game-winner. Sam Vinson added 16 points with 7-of-12 shooting.
  • Cleveland State was paced by Tristan Enaruna with 15 points and Drew Lowder totaled 11 points.
  • Neither team led by more than seven points the entire game in a defensive battle. The Vikings held a three-point lead with less than 20 seconds to play in regulation before Warrick scored the final five points for the Norse to secure the win.
Oakland 83, IUPUI 77 (OT)
  • The Golden Grizzlies survived a tough road game in Indianapolis in overtime to improve to 6-3 in the League.
  • Jalen Moore scored a game-high 27 points for Oakland with seven assists, while Trey Townsend was right behind him with 26 points to go along with a career-high 15 rebounds.
  • IUPUI finished the game with a pair of 20-point performers with Vincent Brady II leading with 23 points and Jlynn Counter tallying 22.
  • Oakland sent the game to overtime on a Moore 3-pointer with just three seconds left in regulation. Moore continued that momentum into OT as he scored nine of Oakland’s 15 points in the extra period including an early 3-pointer that put the Golden Grizzlies up for the rest of the contest.
Purdue Fort Wayne 88, Wright State 80
  • Purdue Fort Wayne gets back over .500 in Horizon League play at 5-4 with its third-straight road win against a HL opponent.
  • Five Mastodons finished in double figures led by Quinton Morton-Robertson with 19 and Jarred Godfrey with 17 and nine rebounds. Deonte Billups and Anthony Roberts recorded 14 points each and Bobby Planutis chipped in 13.
  • Trey Calvin registered a game-best 26 points for Wright State and Brandon Noel posted his League-best fifth double-double during Horizon League play with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
  • The ‘Dons picked up their first-ever win at the Nutter Center by jumping out at halftime, 51-35, its most points in a half against a Division I opponent this year, and holding a 23-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
Milwaukee 77, RMU 69
  • Milwaukee earned its fifth win in six games in a hard-fought contest at home to move to 7-2 in #HLMBB play.
  • MKE’s BJ Freeman had a game-high 26 points to go with seven rebounds, while Markeith Browning II and Kentrell Pullian each recorded 13 points. Moses Bol was perfect from the floor (4-4) and the foul line (2-2) to add 10 points.
  • Kahliel Spear finished with his seventh double-double of the season for RMU with 20 points and 13 rebounds and Jackson Last hit four 3-pointers to end the game with 14 points. Josh Corbin and Michael Green III scored 11 points apiece.
  • The Panthers trailed 66-64 with just under four minutes to play in the second half before ending the game on a 13-3 run with Freeman totaling eight points during the stretch.
Youngstown State 86, Green Bay 70
  • Youngstown State picked up its fifth-straight win overall and third consecutive road win to share first place in the HL standings at 7-2.
  • Dwayne Cohill collected 26 points to lead YSU followed by Malek Green finishing with 17. Adrian Nelson added 15 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.
  • Green Bay’s Brock Heffner scored 24 points on 11-of-19 shooting, while Garren Davis recorded 17 and Clarence Cummings III added 14.
  • The Penguins won the turnover battle, 16-6, their ninth single-digit turnover game of the season, and outscored the Phoenix 22-2 in points off turnovers.
