INDIANAPOLIS – Week 5 of #HLMBB continued on Saturday with Milwaukee and Northern Kentucky earning wins on their home court to share first place in the Horizon League standings, while Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy and RMU each won on the road.  In addition, Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis moved into second place on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list with 3,274 points after a 42-point performance.

Detroit Mercy 89, IUPUI 77

  • Detroit Mercy earned its second win in a row and its second HL road win to improve to 4-5 in League play.
  • Antoine Davis became the first Titan in program history to register back-to-back 40-point games as he recorded a season-high 42 points. Davis went 16-for-30 from the floor including 8-of-18 from distance and added five assists. He also moved into second all-time in the NCAA in scoring with 3,274 points. Damezi Anderson also set a new career-high with 20 points.
  • All five IUPUI players that scored finished the game in double figures led by Jlynn Counter with his second-straight 20-point performance with 23 points, five assists and five rebounds. DJ Jackson added 17 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor but the difference came from behind the arc as Detroit Mercy held a 16-6 advantage in made 3-pointers.
Northern Kentucky 74, Purdue Fort Wayne 54
  • The Norse continue to hold a share of first place in the standings at 8-2 with their sixth win at home during HL play.
  • Marques Warrick capped off an exciting week with a game-high 18 points for Northern Kentucky followed closely by Sam Vinson with a full stat line of 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Trevon Faulkner added 14 points and Trey Robinson chipped in 11.
  • A trio of Mastodons finished in double figures as Damian Chong Qui, Bobby Planutis and Anthony Roberts all had 10 points. Jarred Godfrey set a new program record playing in his 142nd career game for Purdue Fort Wayne.
  • NKU held a six-point advantage at the half but led by as many as 26 in the second period as it shot 58.6 percent (17-29) from the floor and just under 50 percent from behind the arc (7-15) over the final 20 minutes.
Milwaukee 88, Youngstown State 75
  • In a battle of two teams that started Saturday tied for first place, Milwaukee came out on top at home to improve to 8-2, while Youngstown State drops a game behind at 7-3 with its winning streak ended at five.
  • BJ Freeman had a big game for the Panthers as he posted his first double-double of the season with 30 points and 11 assists. Freeman hit five 3-pointers for his first 30-point performance of the season and added six rebounds. Kentrell Pullian tallied 17 points and Ahmad Rand totaled 12.
  • Four YSU players finished in double figures as Brandon Rush led the offense with 19 points, followed by Malek Green with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds and Dwayne Cohill with 16.
  • MKE’s offense was efficient shooting from the field at 54.0 percent (34-63) and from 3-point range at 48.0 percent (12-25), while its defense held the Penguins to 19.0 percent (4-21) from long range and also blocked seven shots.
RMU 72, Green Bay 38
  • RMU stopped a three-game losing skid with its first HL road win since the opening of HL play on Dec. 1.
  • Kahliel Spear recorded a game-high 19 points for the Colonials and Enoch Cheeks fell just shy of a double-double with 13 points and eight assists.
  • Green Bay’s Randy Tucker led the Phoenix offense with 11 points and seven rebounds.
  • RMU won the rebounding battle 42-23 and outscored GB in the paint 36-14.
Cleveland State 85, Wright State 77
  • Cleveland State salvaged a split of its road trip to keep pace with the top of the standings and remain just one game back of first place at 7-3.
  • CSU’s Tristan Enaruna was one rebound shy of a double-double with 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting with nine rebounds. Tae Williams and Deshon Parker recorded 15 points apiece and Drew Lowder finished with 12.
  • Trey Calvin led all scorers with 24 for Wright State and Brandon Noel ended the game with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting with six rebounds.
  • The Vikings jumped out to a 16-point lead after the first half as they shot 70.4 percent (19-27) from the floor, including going 13-of-17 from inside the arc in the opening period. The Raiders cut the deficit to four in the second half including after a Calvin jumper with under one minute to play, but Parker was able to seal the win as he went 7-of-8 from the free-throw line in the final 45 seconds of regulation.
