INDIANAPOLIS – RMU’s Kahliel Spear averaged 27.5 points on 70 percent shooting and 7.5 rebounds per game, including a 30-point performance on Saturday, to help the Colonials to a 2-0 week and extend their win streak to three to earn Nike® #HLMBB Player of the Week, while IUPUI’s Armon Jarrard was named the Nike® #HLMBB Freshman of the Week after posting a career-high 22 points and averaging 15.0 for the week as the Horizon League announced its men’s basketball weekly honors on Monday.
#HLMBB Player of the Week
Kahliel Spear | RMU | Graduate Student | Forward | The Colony, Texas
In a pair of home victories that helped the Colonials extend their winning streak to three, Spear averaged 27.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while shooting 70 percent (21-for-30) from the field, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. In an 85-77 victory over Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Spear helped RMU pick up its first win in the all-time series against the Titans by leading five players in double figures with 25 points while also notching four assists, two blocks and two steals. Two days later, Spear established a career high with 30 points in a 68-63 triumph over Oakland while recording 11 rebounds to post his eighth double-double of the season and 18th of his career with the Colonials. His scoring effort on Saturday helped Spear eclipse the 1,000-point plateau as a student-athlete at RMU and become the 15th student-athlete in program history to reach both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
