Green Bay Tops 2023-24 Under Armour #HLWBB Preseason Poll
INDIANAPOLIS (October 18, 2023) – 2022-23 #HLWBB regular season champion Green Bay is the unanimous favorite to win this season’s title in the 2023-24 Under Armour #HLWBB Preseason Poll with voting conducted by the League’s head coaches. Cleveland State’s Destiny Leo earned Preseason Player of the Year honors.

- Green Bay returns to the top spot in the preseason poll for the first time since sharing the title of preseason favorite with Wright State ahead of the 2019-20 season. The Phoenix have won a League-best 16 #HLWBB championships.
- Reigning League Player of the Year Leo collects her second-straight #HLWBB Preseason Player of the Year honor after pacing the League with 17.9 points per game and leading the Vikings to the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23.
- Purdue Fort Wayne’s predicted finish of fourth marks the program’s highest finish in the preseason poll since joining the League in 2020. The Mastodons advanced to the #HLWBB semifinals for the first time in 2023.
- 2022-23 All-League Second Team selections Green Bay’s Bailey Butler, IUPUI’s Jazmyn Turner, and Oakland’s Brooke Quarles-Daniels all made the move up to the Preseason First Team joined by 2022-23 Third Team honoree Amellia Bromenschenkel of Purdue Fort Wayne.
- The regular season will start on Monday, Nov. 6, and Horizon League play is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The 2024 Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships are scheduled to culminate at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis March 11-12 with the mantra #MarchStartsHere. - The Horizon League is implementing an enhanced approach to its men’s and women’s basketball schedules for the upcoming 2023-24 season in a major move for student-athletes and supporters. The improved approach offers the competitive equity of a non-travel partner schedule while also offering the sustainability benefits of a travel-partner schedule contributing to a better student-athlete experience.
