INDIANAPOLIS (November 13, 2023) – Youngstown State’s Emily Saunders and Detroit Mercy’s Paris Gilmore have earned this week’s Under Armour #HLWBB weekly awards.

Emily Saunders | Youngstown State | Senior | Forward | Mullens, W. Va.
  • Saunders was the only player in the Horizon League to average a double-double last week, posting 21 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in the first two starts of her collegiate career.
  • Saunders also topped the circuit by shooting 76% (19-for-25) from the field, and she ranked third in the league with 1.5 blocks per contest.
  • She began the week with 20 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and two blocks against Xavier as the Penguins beat the Musketeers for their first win against a current member of the Big East since 2006. Saunders had the highest totals in the game with 20 points and 14 rebounds, and the 14 rebounds were the most of her career. She was an efficient 10-for-15 from the field.
  • Saunders then went 9-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in a 22-point, nine-rebound performance against Division II Slippery Rock to finish the week. She set a new career high with 22 points against The Rock.

  • Averaged 10.0 ppg, 1.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals per game to lead Detroit Mercy to a 2-1 opening week record. 
  • Had a collegiate debut scoring a team-best 13 points on 3-of-7 from 3-point range with two boards, a steal and assist in season-opening win at EMU (11/6) which marked the Titans' first season-opening win since the 2018-19 season and first season-opening road win since the 2016-17 season.
  • It also was the Titans' first win over a Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponent since the Titans defeated the Eagles, 77-64, on Dec. 6, 2016. 
  • Added eight points with two steals and an assist in home opening win vs Chicago State (11/10) that moved the Titans to 2-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2010-11 season. 
  • Chipped in with nine points going 3-for-4 from the charity stripe with two assists, a rebound and steal in 7-point setback at Butler.
