Jazmyn Turner added in a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds to go with three blocks and two steals, and Logan Lewis brought 10 points off the bench. Golden Grizzlies Claw Their Way to Victory Oakland pulled out a gritty, double overtime win over Akron on November 6, 91-87. Overcoming an offensive surge by the Zips in the fourth quarter, the Golden Grizzlies never trailed by more than three points all game. All five starters scored in double figures, with Linda van Schaik leading the way with 21 points. Markyia McCormick added 15 points, Kianni Westbrook scored 13, Brooke Quarles-Daniels pitched in 13 points, and Alexis Johnson rounded it out with 11. Golden Hour for Youngstown State The Penguins picked up the League’s first win over Power Six opponent this season with a 55-41 win against Xavier on Wednesday. Player of the Week recipient Emily Saunders led the way with a 20 point-14 rebound performance. Malia Magestro added in 14 points for Youngstown State’s first win over a Big East opponent since 2012. No Mercy from Detroit Detroit Mercy earned victories in their first two games of the season, beating Eastern Michigan 68-38 on November 6 and Chicago State 83-48 on Friday. Imani McNeal and Freshman of the Week winner Paris Gilmore both averaged 10 points in the two wins. Phoenix Soar on Offense in Saturday Win Green Bay’s offense had an efficient day shooting the ball in their 88-62 win over Illinois State on Saturday. The Phoenix shot 52% from the field, 43% from three, and a perfect 100% from the free throw line. Callie Genke led all scorers in the game with 26 points, including five three-pointers. Mastodons with Massive Win Purdue Fort Wayne didn’t waste much time altering the records books this season as they set two program records in their 124-41 win over Great Lakes Christian on Sunday. Their 124 points and 83-point margin of victory are both the highest in Mastodon history. Leo Leads Nation in Buckets Two games in, Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year Destiny Leo is leading not just the League, but the entire nation in scoring.
