Horizon League Reveals 2023 #HLMSOC All-League Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (November 3, 2023) – The Horizon League revealed our 2023 #HLMSOC awards on Friday. All-League awards were voted on by the League’s head coaches.
IUPUI midfielder Lukas Hackaa was named Horizon League Player of the Year while Oakland’s Mikey Ketteman won Offensive Player of the Year. Green Bay’s Hesron Barry was voted Defensive Player of the year and his teammate Tobias Jahn was recognized as Goalkeeper of the Year. Freshman of the Year is Oakland’s Donavan Phillip and Co-Coach of the year honors go to Oakland’s Eric Pogue and Green Bay’s Jeremy Bonomo. RMU’s Gabe Norris claimed the League’s Sportsmanship Award.

- Hackaa leads the Jaguars with four goals and 13 points in nine #HLMSOC contests, earning the Under Armour #HLMSOC Offensive Player of the Week on August 28.
- Ketteman scored 8 goals in 9 League matches, to go along with 3 assists and 2.00 shots on goal per game. He also won Under Armour #HLMSOC Offensive Player of the Week honors on September10.
- Barry made eight League starts and tallied a total of 712 minutes in League play.
- Jahn started all nine League matches, totaling 26 saves and a .703 save percentage.
- Phillip scored three goals and recorded three assists while starting every League match as a freshman.
- The Sportsmanship Award recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Sportsmanship is defined as behavior exhibited during competition by student-athletes based on values, respect and integrity.
- Oakland’s Eric Pogue and Green Bay’s Jeremy Bonomo share #HLMSOC Coach of the Year honors.
- Pogue lead the Golden Grizzlies to a regular season title and the No. 1 overall seed in the League championship.
- Bonomo’s Phoenix earned a 5-2-2 League record and a quarterfinal bye as the No. 2 seed in the League championship.
- Regular season champion Oakland and No. 2 seed Green Bay led the League with three All-League First Team selections.
- IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne all had two spots on the All-League Second Team.
- The Horizon League Men’s Soccer Championship kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. ET with two quarterfinal contests. No. 3 seed IUPUI hosts No. 6 seed Wright State while No. 4 seed Detroit Mercy will welcome No. 5 seed Purdue Fort Wayne.
- On Thursday, Nov. 9, the championship will move to Oakland Soccer Field.
- The first semifinal will see No. 1 seed Oakland square off against the lowest remaining seed at 1 p.m. ET with No. 2 seed Green Bay taking on the highest remaining seed at 4 p.m. ET.
- The championship is set for 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 11.
- Every match of the 2023 Horizon League Men’s Soccer Championship will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can also follow all the action on social media by following @HorizonLeague and the hashtags #HLMSOC and #OurHorizon.
