Day Two of the #HLSD Championships Sees Oakland Women and IUPUI Men Remain Atop the Standings

INDIANAPOLIS — The 2023 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships continued Thursday at the IU Natatorium (NAT). Yet again, three championship records were broken. The Golden Grizzlies extended their lead in the standings in the women’s competition, now standing at 361. The Jaguars remain in the lead in men’s competition with a total of 321 points thanks to a thrilling finale in day two.
The night capped off with the IUPUI men earning the victory in the 200 freestyle relay, while setting a new championship record at 1:19.16. Oakland won on the women’s side with a time of 1:32.34.
Oakland swept the 200 IM, both with championship records. Fifth year senior Susan LaGrand broke her own championship record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.23 and senior Marko Khotynetski finished with a time of 1:45.39.
The IM would be followed by the 50 free, where Jordyn Shipps and Christian Bart claimed the titles for the Golden Grizzlies with times of 22.95 and 19.77, respectively.
The night began with Emmaleigh Zietlow of IUPUI winning the women’s 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.33 and Jonas Cantrell of Oakland claiming the victory with a time of 4:22.87 on the men’s side.
The women’s 1-meter diving competition saw Elleana Chalifoux of Oakland earn the victory with a score of 280.30. IUPUI’s Sadie Smith was a close second with a score of 275.15. Placing third was Victoria Sanders of Oakland finishing with a score of 266.75.
