INDIANAPOLIS – Week 9 of #HLMBB concluded on Sunday with Cleveland State taking sole possession of second place in the HL standings, Purdue Fort Wayne winning at the buzzer on a near half court shot and Detroit Mercy claiming a home win as Antoine Davis set two program records.

  • Detroit Mercy earned its third-straight victory and its fifth victory in its last six games to pull to .500 in Horizon League play at 9-9.
  • Antoine Davis finished with 31 points for his 12th 30-point performance of the season for Detroit Mercy as set the program’s single-season 3-point and scoring records. Gerald Liddell and A.J. Oliver both recorded 12 points and eight boards, while TJ moss and Damezi Anderson totaled 11 points apiece.
  • IUPUI was led by Vincent Brady II with 13 points, followed by John Egbuta with 11 points and Chris Osten with 10.
  • The Titans registered a season-best 13 steals and forced 17 turnovers to hold a 21-7 advantage in points off turnovers and lead 23-15 in points off turnovers.
Purdue Fort Wayne 77, Wright State 75
  • Purdue Fort Wayne snapped a four-game losing streak in dramatic fashion with a last second buzzer beater to improve to 8-10 in HL play, while Wright State dropped its second in a row after winning its previous three to fall to 9-9.
  • Jarred Godfrey led all scorers with 25 points and tallied six steals for the Mastodons and Damian Chong Qui posted 16 points including the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired. Quinton Morton-Robertson added 10 points.
  • Wright State finished with a pair of 20-point performers as Alex Huibregtse recorded a team-best 24 points with six 3-pointers and Trey Calvin ended the game with 22. Brandon Noel registered his seventh double-double during League play with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
  • The ‘Dons trailed by one in the waning seconds of regulation after the Raiders took the lead on a Noel 3-pointer with 50.2 seconds on the clock followed by a Calvin turnaround jumper with 2.8 seconds left in the second half. Purdue Fort Wayne immediately in bounded the ball and Chong Qui dribbled the ball up the floor and shot it after crossing half court to hit the game-winning shot as time expired.
Cleveland State 64, Northern Kentucky 63
  • In the battle of the two teams tied for second place, Cleveland State won its fourth game in a row to take sole possession of second place in the Horizon League standings at 13-5. Northern Kentucky falls to 12-6 in HL play and in a tie for third place.
  • CSU’s Deante Johnson registered his third double-double in League play with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tristan Enaruna added 14 points and Jayson Woodrich scored 11 points with three 3-pointers.
  • Marques Warrick led all scorers with 26 points for NKU on five 3-pointers. Sam Vinson ended the game with nine points.
  • Neither team led by more than six in the contest, with the biggest difference coming in the pain as the Vikings won the rebounding battle, 42-31, and outscored the Norse in the paint, 36-28.
