Green Bay Earns No. 1 Seed as 2023 Barbasol #HLWBB Championship Bracket Announced

INDIANAPOLIS – The bracket for the 2023 Barbasol Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship was released on Saturday following the completion of the regular season with Green Bay earning the outright regular season title and No. 1 seed.

Top-seeded Green Bay (18-2) enters the championship on an 11-game winning streak. The Phoenix earned a 70-64 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday to finish the regular season.

Cleveland State (17-3) will be the No. 2 seed during the championship. The Vikings topped Milwaukee 63-56 on the road to wrap up the regular season.

IUPUI finished the #HLWBB regular season 13-7 to secure the No. 3 seed. The Jaguars swept Youngstown State in the regular season to own the tiebreaker.

The Penguins (13-7) will be the No. 4 seed and host a quarterfinal on Thursday along with Green Bay, Cleveland State and IUPUI. Northern Kentucky (10-10) will be the No. 5 seed and receive a first round bye prior to traveling to Youngstown State for the quarterfinals.

Purdue Fort Wayne (9-11) is the No. 6 seed, while Milwaukee (8-12) and Oakland (8-12) earned the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds, respectively. MKE held the tiebreaker over OAK with a win over No. 1 seed Green Bay. The Mastodons, Panthers and Golden Grizzlies will host Tuesday’s first round matchups.

Wright State, RMU and Detroit Mercy will travel for first round matchups as seeds nine through 11.

The 2023 Barbasol Horizon League Basketball Championships begin Feb. 28 and March 2 at campus sites and eight teams – four men and four women – will look to advance to Indianapolis and #REACHtheHORIZON on March 6-7 at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

Every game of the championship will be carried on ESPN networks with the first three rounds of the Barbasol Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship streamed on ESPN+ and the championship game broadcast on ESPNU.

First-round action begins on Tuesday, Feb. 28 with three games as No. 6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne hosts No. 11 seed Detroit Mercy, No. 7 seed Milwaukee takes on No. 10 seed RMU and No. 8 seed Oakland battles No. 9 seed Wright State.

On Thursday, March 2, the top four seeds will host quarterfinal matchups for a chance to advance to Indianapolis for the semifinals. Youngstown State will host NKU while the other three matchups will be set on Tuesday night after the first round concludes.
