INDIANAPOLIS – The first round of the Barbasol Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship took place on Tuesday with all three higher seeds, RMU, Wright State and Detroit Mercy, winning at home and advancing to Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Quarterfinal games will feature top-seed Youngstown State hosting No. 8 Detroit Mercy, No. 2 Milwaukee welcoming No. 7 Wright State, No. 3 Cleveland State facing No. 6 RMU and No. 4 Northern Kentucky playing No. 5 Oakland. All games can be watched on ESPN+.

- RMU advances to the quarterfinals for the second-straight season with its first-ever home win during the Horizon League Championship.
- All-League Second Team selection Kahliel Spear registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for RMU and now leads the League with 13 double-doubles.
- Michael Green III totaled 16 points for the Colonials on 4-of-7 from distance including hitting the game-winning shot with just 2.1 seconds left in regulation. Stephaun Walker added 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting with nine rebounds.
- IUPUI finishes the season with a record of 5-27.
- Four Jags finished in double figures led by All-League Third Team honoree Jlynn Counter with a game-high 25 points. All-Freshman Team selections DJ Jackson and Vincent Brady II scored 13 and 10, respectively, and Chris Osten tallied 13 points and seven boards.
- RMU led 34-20 at the half but IUPUI stormed back in the second half to tie the game off a Counter layup with 10 seconds left in regulation. That set up Green who dribbled the ball up the floor and hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to send the Colonials to the quarterfinals.

- Wright State moves on to play in the quarterfinal round for the third year in a row.
- Freshman of the Year Brandon Noel led the charge for the Raiders with his 11th double-double of the season with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
- All-League First Teamer Trey Calvin totaled 14 points for WSU and Tim Finke added 13 points and seven assists.
- Green Bay ends the season with an overall mark of 3-28.
- Randy Tucker tied for the game-high with 20 points for the Pheonix. Clarence Cummings III recorded 14 points and Cade Meyer chipped in 10.
- Wright State shot 52 percent (29-56) from the floor as it held a 42-20 advantage in rebounds and outscored Green Bay 36-20 in the paint.
No. 8 Detroit Mercy 81, No. 9 Purdue Fort Wayne 68
- The Titans won a first round game in the Horizon League championship for the third consecutive season.
- Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis led all scorers with 38 points with six 3-pointers and almost completed a triple-double as he grabbed eight rebounds and dished out eight assists. The Player of the Year sits just 25 points away from matching the NCAA’s all-time scoring record of 3,667 points set by LSU’s Pete Maravich.
- Marcus Tankersley scored 12 points for the Titans on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and Damezi Anderson totaled 11 points with three triples.
- Purdue Fort Wayne finishes the 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 17-15.
- Bobby Planutis led the Mastodons with 20 points for his second 20-point performance of the season. Anthony Roberts finished with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting and Damian Chong Qui totaled 12 points and seven assists.
- Detroit Mercy led by eight at halftime but used a big 17-1 run early in the second half to take a 58-37 lead as Anderson his all three of his shots from distance during the stretch.
