  • No. 6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne outlasted No. 11 seed Detroit Mercy, 65-61, in the opening round of the 2023 Barbasol #HLWBB championship.
  • Destinee Marshall hit a jumper in the paint with 11 seconds left to give the Mastodons a two-point advantage then Amellia Bromenschenkel closed out the win with two free throws with three seconds remaining.
  • PFW scored 32 points off 24 Titan turnovers.
  • Audra Emmerson led the ‘Dons with 16 points and Jazzlyn Linbo added 12 points.
  • Imani McNeal paced DET with 16 points while Amaya Burch chipped in 15 points.
  • The Mastodons will travel to take on No. 3 seed IUPUI in Thursday’s quarterfinal round.
Wright State 79, Oakland 69
  • No. 9 seed Wright State defeated No. 8 seed Oakland on the road by 10 points on Tuesday in first-round action.
  • The Raiders outscored the Golden Grizzlies 42-28 in the second half to take the win.
  • Cara VanKempen led WSU with 24 points and three other Raiders scored in double figures.
  • Breanne Beatty scored 17 points to lead a trio of OAK players in double figures.
  • The Raiders advance to Thursday’s quarterfinals and will face top-seeded Green Bay at the Kress Center.
Milwaukee 64, RMU 58
  • No. 7 seed Milwaukee collected a 64-58 victory over No. 10 seed RMU in Tuesday’s first-round contest.
  • The Panthers shot 51 percent from the field (26-51), including 25-37 (67.6 percent) on two-point attempts.
  • Kendall Nead posted a double-double for MKE with 21 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 10-13 from the floor.
  • Mackenzie Amalia (11 points) and Danielle Vuletich (10 points) led the Colonials offensively.
  • Milwaukee advances to the Barbasol #HLWBB Quarterfinals and will travel to No. 2 seed Cleveland State on Thursday.
