Nike #HLTennis Players of the Week (March 8)

INDIANAPOLIS – Kamil Kozerski of IUPUI won the Nike #HLTennis Men’s Singles Player of the Week honors, and Tomas Luis and Ian Cruz of Belmont claimed the Nike #HLTennis Men’s Doubles Team of the Week honors. On the women’s side, Tereze Vevere of Cleveland State takes home the Nike #HLTennis Women’s Singles Player of the Week and the tandem of Nadiia Konieva and Giorgia Cavestro of Milwaukee won the Nike #HLTennis Women’s Doubles Team of the Week as the Horizon League announced its weekly tennis awards on Wednesday.
#HLTennis Men’s Singles Player of the Week
Kamil Kozerski | IUPUI | Sophomore | Des Plaines, Ill.
Kozerski helped lead the Jags to back-to-back wins against UIC and Holy Cross. He defeated UIC’s Jai Vallurupalli in the number three singles spot in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 and completed his weekend undefeated with a number two singles win over Holy Cross’ Ciaran McCarthy in two sets, 6-0, 7-6 (5). He also helped lead the Jags to a doubles point against UIC with a number three doubles win with partner Nick Moody, 6-3.

Ian Cruz | Belmont | Sophomore | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The tandem of junior Tomas Luis and sophomore Ian Cruz went a perfect 2-0 Monday at nationally-ranked Ole Miss. The duo helped secure the coveted doubles point in both matches of a doubleheader as Belmont won only its second and third doubles points at a Power Five conference opponent in recent program history. Luis and Cruz clinched the doubles point in the opening match with a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles over the Rebels’ Isac Stromberg and Walker Stearns. In the second match of the day, Cruz and Luis cruised to a 6-1 victory against Stromberg and Stearns at the third spot.
#HLTennis Women’s Singles Player of the Week
Tereze Vevere | Cleveland State | Sophomore | Riga, Latvia
Vevere went 2-0 on the weekend at No. 3 singles, picking up back-to-back wins against West Virginia and Howard. She opened the weekend with a 6-1, 7-5 win against WVU, before picking up a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory against Howard. Vevere now has a team-best 18-9 singles record on the year, including a 9-5 record this spring.
#HLTennis Women’s Doubles Team of the Week
Nadiia Konieva | Milwaukee | Freshman | Kharkiv, Ukraine
Giorgia Cavestro | Milwaukee | Sophomore | Liceo Fogazzaro, Vicenza, Italy
Nadiia Konieva and Giorgia Cavestro combined for a perfect 2-0 weekend while playing at No. 2 doubles, helping the Panthers with a pair of convincing victories. The MKE duo topped Andrijana Brkic of Kim Zizek Northern Iowa by a score of 6-2 Saturday and then clinched the doubles point for Milwaukee Sunday against UIC with an impressive 6-3 decision over Natalia Nikolopoulou and Cora-Lynn von Dungern.
