Horizon League Announces 2023 Valeo #HLBASE All-Academic Team
INDIANAPOLIS – Recognizing student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom, the Horizon League released its 2023 Valeo Baseball All-Academic Team on Thursday. A total of 17 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team while four more were tabbed as honorable mentions in balloting by the League’s faculty athletics representatives.
The Valeo All-Academic Team and Honorable Mention Team are comprised of student-athletes from all six League institutions that sponsor baseball. Oakland led the League with six total selections while Wright State placed five total student-athletes on the teams. Youngstown State followed with four total representatives on the teams. Milwaukee had three total student-athletes named to the teams, with Northern Kentucky having two total, and Purdue Fort Wayne had one student-athlete earning the honors.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team’s overall contests or 20 percent of overall contests for pitchers. An Honorable Mention is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
