Horizon League Reveals 2024 #HLMSOC Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (November 8, 2024) – The Horizon League revealed our 2024 #HLMSOC awards on Friday. All-League awards are voted on by the League’s head coaches.
Cleveland State forward Bojan Kolevski won Player of the Year honors while fellow Viking Matteo Correia took home Freshman of the Year. Oakland’s Alex Flowers was awarded Goalkeeper of the Year, Wright State’s Cole Werthmuller earned Offensive Player of the Year and Green Bay’s So Nishikawa collected Defensive Player of the Year. The Sportsmanship Awards went to Milwaukee’s David Cox and Oakland’s Jace Foster, while Paul Doroh of Oakland was voted as the League’s Coach of the Year.

- Correia led the League with 13 points in #HLMSOC play in his first season.
- Flowers recorded a League-best goals against average of 1.111 and saved 35 shots against League opponents.
- Werthmuller earns Offensive Player of the Year honors after recording nine points in League play this season.
- Nishikawa piloted a Phoenix defense that allowed only 13 goals in #HLMSOC action, while also producing two goals and four assists.
- The Sportsmanship Award recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Sportsmanship is defined as behavior exhibited during competition by student-athletes based on values, respect and integrity.
- Cox, a three-year team captain, is considered “the glue of the team” by Panthers head coach Kris Kelderman and takes a leadership role in the team’s community involvement efforts.
- “(Foster) routinely helps not only his own teammates, but others across the league,” says Oakland head coach Paul Doroh. “He is a true professional towards officials and opposing coaches.”
- In his first season as head coach of the Golden Grizzles, Paul Doroh wins #HLMSOC Coach of the Year honors after leading Oakland to a regular-season title and the No. 1 seed.
- Regular season champion Oakland paced the League with four All-League First Team selections.
- Cleveland State, Green Bay and RMU all posted five All-League selections.
- Detroit Mercy, Milwaukee, Purdue Fort Wayne and Wright State are all represented with multiple All-League selections.
- The 2024 #HLMSOC Championship starts Sunday, Nov. 10 with quarterfinal play kicking off at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
- No. 3 seed Milwaukee hosts No. 6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne while No. 4 seed Green Bay welcomes No. 5 seed Cleveland State.
- The semifinals and championship matches will take place at the Oakland Soccer Field at Oakland University on Thursday, Nov. 14.
- No. 1 seed Oakland will face the lowest-remaining seed at 1 p.m. ET and No. 2 RMU will take on the highest-remaining seed at 4 p.m. ET.
- The championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 16.
