Milwaukee's Higgins and Wright State's Werthmuller Named Fall Scholar-Athletes of the Season

INDIANAPOLIS (December 19, 2024) – Milwaukee women’s soccer senior Lainey Higgins and Wright State men’s soccer senior Cole Werthmuller have been selected as our Horizon League Fall Scholar-Athletes of the Season.

  • Higgins is a three-time member of the Valeo Horizon League All-Academic Team and three-time member of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
  • She is a Kinesiology major at Milwaukee.
  • Higgins earned #HLWSOC Player of the Year honors and United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Second Team recognition this season.
  • Werthmuller earned Valeo Horizon League All-Academic Team recognition this fall along with College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honors.
  • He studies Sports Science at Wright State.
  • Werthmuller was named the 2024 #HLMSOC Offensive Player of the Year and was voted onto the 2024 United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Second Team.
  • The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes at the conclusion of each of its three athletic seasons as the Scholar-Athlete of the Season.
    • To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Season consideration, a student-athlete must be a member of that sports current year all-academic team.
    • Honorees are selected based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement by the League’s faculty athletics representatives.
