Oakland Men and Women on Top Entering Final Day of 2024 #HLSD Championships

INDIANAPOLIS (February 16, 2024) – Day three of the 2024 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships took place Friday at the IU Natatorium (NAT) and two records were broken. The Golden Grizzlies lead the men’s competition with 558.5 points and are also at the top of the women’s standings with 646.5 points.
- The night started off with Jordyn Shipps of Oakland winning the women’s 100 butterfly while Spencer Jyawook of IUPUI won the men’s 100 butterfly with a time of 46.11.
- Shipps clocked in a championship record time of 53.04.
- Next, the 400 individual medley saw Youngstown State’s Miriam Frass take the women’s race and Cleveland State’s Jackson Nester take first place in the men’s race.
- Frass clocked in a time of 4:21.37 and Nester clocked in a time of 3:47.48.
- In the 200 freestyle, Emmaleigh Zietlow from IUPUI locked in first in the women’s race with a time of 1:47.28 while Oakland’s Jonas Cantrell clocked in a time of 1:35.92 to win the men’s race.
- In the 100 breaststroke, Bella Gary of Oakland took first place in the women’s race and Logan Kelly of IUPUI took first in the men’s race.
- Gary clocked a time of 1:03.07 and Kelly finished with a time of 52:06.
- Oakland swept the 100 backstroke.
- Clarissa Bezuidenhout finished in in first for the women, clocking in at 54.80 and Jack Wike finished in first for the men, clocking in at 47.80.
- In the women’s 1-meter dive, IUPUI’s Alaina Heyde took home first place with a score of 301.65.
- In the final event of the night, Oakland claimed first place in the women’s 400 medley relay and IUPUI claimed first place in the men’s 400 medley relay.
- The Golden Grizzlies clocked in a time of 3:42.25 while the Jaguars finished in a championship record time of 3:09.17.
