Cleveland State Captures 2024 #HLSB Championship

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO (May 12, 2024) – Cleveland State earned the 2024 #HLSB title on Sunday, defeating Northern Kentucky to close out the championship.

- Cleveland State battled back with a 6-1 win in the second game of the day after dropping a 5-4 contest against the Norse Sunday morning.
- In Sunday’s first game, Northern Kentucky jumped out to 4-1 lead before CSU tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth.
- In the seventh, Trinity Robertson drove in the winning run for the Norse to force the winner-take-all second game.
- In the final game of the championship, Sydni Barnes put the Norse up 1-0 in the first with an RBI double.
- The Vikings tied the game in the third on a solo home run by Brooke Albaugh.
- Albaugh put CSU on top in the fifth with a two-RBI triple then Jenna Deang added an RBI single and Championship MVP Melissa Holzopfel capped the five-run inning with a two-run home run.
- Holzopfel allowed just four hits in the circle in the victory.
- Cleveland State collected its first #HLSB title since 2009.
