DAYTON, OHIO (May 24, 2024) – Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State advanced to Saturday’s #HLBASE championship with victories on Friday.

  • No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky advanced to its first #HLBASE championship game with a 10-6 win over top-seeded Wright State in Friday’s first game.
    • The Norse jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held a 10-1 advantage entering the bottom of the ninth.
    • The Raiders scored six in the final frame.
    • Treyvin Moss led NKU with three hits and five RBIs, including a home run and a triple.
    • Tanner Gillis tossed 8.2 innings for the Norse with 11 strikeouts.
    • Patrick Fultz and Gus Gregory had two hits each for WSU.
    • Northern Kentucky will face YSU in Saturday’s championship game at noon ET.
  • No. 6 seed Youngstown State eliminated No. 4 seed Milwaukee with a 3-2 victory in Friday’s second game.

    • RJ Sherwood drove in the game-winning run in the top of the sixth.
    • Sherwood and Teddy Ruffner had two hits each for YSU.
    • The Penguins advanced to take on Wright State in another elimination game Friday night.
  • Youngstown State avoided elimination again with a 6-3 win over Wright State in game nine.
    • After a leadoff home run in the first by Julian Greenwell and the Raiders, YSU took the lead in the second with a two-RBI double by Jack Johnson.
    • The Penguins added two runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Trey Law and Brett Stanley and added one run each in the eighth and ninth innings.
    • YSU held the Raiders to three hits.
    • Colin Casteel picked up the win with 6.0 innings pitched and one earned run allowed.
    • Five Penguins had two hits each.
    • Youngstown State will look to defeat NKU twice on Saturday to earn its first title since 2014.
