Youngstown State Women, Purdue Fort Wayne and Youngstown State Men In Front After Day One of 2024 Outdoor #HLTF Championships

ROCHESTER HILLS, MICH. (May 3, 2024) – The 2024 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships kicked off Friday afternoon at Oakland University’s Elaine Leigh Track and Field Complex. After the first day of competition, the Youngstown State women and both the Purdue Fort Wayne and Youngstown State men lead with scores of 23 and 31, respectively.
 
  • The day’s events commenced with the heptathlon, which is currently being led by Anna Szepieniec of Milwaukee with a score of 2969.
  • In the decathlon, Milwaukee’s Liam Richards is in the lead through the first five events, recording a score of 3434.
  • In the field events, Molly Radcliffe of Youngstown State took home the women’s discus crown with a winning throw of 46.45m. Oakland’s Romario Jackson earned first in the men’s discus with a distance of 52.61m.
  • The men’s javelin saw Viktor Ertelt of Purdue Fort Wayne win the event with a throw of 59.26m. The women’s javelin champion, Cleveland State’s Grace Frye, claimed the top spot with a mark of 40.36m.
  • In the day’s lone running final, the 10k event champions were Youngstown State’s Hunter Christopher, who posted a winning time of 30:04.03 on the men’s side, and RMU’s Julia Dill, who claimed the top spot on the women’s side by running a 35:01.27 in her first time competing in the event.
