INDIANAPOLIS (June 5, 2024) – Oakland captured its seventh McCafferty Trophy and this year’s Men’s All-Sports Award while Milwaukee collected the Women’s All-Sports Award, the League office announced on Wednesday.

  • Oakland captured League titles in men’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming and diving and women’s golf this year.
  • The Golden Grizzlies added regular season championships in men’s basketball and men’s soccer to earn the Men’s All-Sports Award.
  • Milwaukee posted League championships in women’s soccer and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field to pick up the Women’s All-Sports Award.
  • 2022-23 McCafferty Trophy winner Youngstown State placed second in the overall standings following titles in men’s cross country and men’s indoor and outdoor track & field along with a regular season championship in softball.
  • Cleveland State placed fourth with men’s tennis and softball championships ahead of IUPUI and Wright State.
  • Named in honor of James J. McCafferty, who served as the conference’s first commissioner from 1979-80, the McCafferty Trophy is awarded annually by the Horizon League to a member institution compiling the greatest number of performance points, based on its finish in the League’s 19 championship sports.
  • For the sports of men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball and baseball, points are awarded based on combined regular-season (60 percent) and championship (40 percent) finishes.  For all other sports, points are based on performance in the League championships.
