Oakland’s Cleary and Campbell Named 2023-24 Scholar-Athletes of the Year July 08 Rachel White INDIANAPOLIS (July 8, 2024) – Oakland baseball graduate student Ian Cleary and softball redshirt senior Sydney Campbell have been selected as our 2023-24 Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Dig Deeper: Cleary is a three-time #HLBASE All-Academic Team selection and two-time Scholar-Athlete of the Season who also earned our Men’s Post-Graduate Scholarship for 2024-25 and our 2023-24 Cecil N. Coleman Medal of Honor. Cleary ranks in the top ten in the Oakland baseball record book in RBIs (113) and games played (187). A Reading and Language Arts major, Campbell is a four-time member of the #HLSB All-Academic Team and also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team recognition each of the last two seasons. Campbell collected her third consecutive #HLSB Pitcher of the Year honor this season and is Oakland’s all-time leader in wins (83), strikeouts (517), games started (113), shutouts (23), and innings pitched (820.1). One male and one female student-athlete are honored annually after the conclusion of the athletic year as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, based on a combination of academic and athletic achievement. The Faculty Athletics Representatives select the recipients from a pool of the year’s Scholar-Athletes of the Season.
