Oakland Sweeps the 2025 #HLSD Championship

INDIANAPOLIS (February 22, 2025) – The 2025 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships concluded on Saturday at the IU Natatorium (NAT) with Oakland sweeping the competition.
 
  • Miriam Frass of Youngstown State won the 1650 freestyle with a B cut time of 16:50.80 and  Jonas Cantrell of Oakland won with a B cut time of 15:15.71, with both athletes earning their second win of the Horizon League Championship.
  • In the 200 backstroke, Grace Albrecht of Oakland won her second event of the meet with a time of 1:58.91. Harry Nicholson of Oakland took home his first Horizon League Championship win with a B cut time of 1:42.01. Oakland’s Max Haney and Cleveland State’s Jackson Nester also swam a B cut time in the 200 backstroke.
  • Ronja Riihinen of Oakland took home first in the 100 freestyle after a tight battle with a time of 50.19.  Oakland’s Charlie Brown earned his second win of the meet with a time of 43.47.
  • Cleveland State’s Giovanna Cappabianca won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:15.19. Christopher Palvadre of Oakland won on the men’s side with a B cut time of 1:55.33.
  • In her third Horizon League Championship win of the meet, Oakland’s Jordyn Shipps won the 200 butterfly with a B cut time of 1:58.56. After breaking the 14-year Horizon League Championship record in the 200 butterfly during prelims with a B cut time of 1:44.72, Johnston took first in the final, breaking his record from prelims with a B cut time of 1:44.67.
  • In the diving well, Elleana Chalifoux of Oakland earned her second Horizon League Championship win of the meet with a B cut score of 298.95 in the 3-meter dive. Alaina Heyde of IU Indianapolis came in second with a B cut score of 286.90.
  • In the final event of the evening, Oakland women took first in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:20.94. With a time of 2:53.18, the Oakland men earned the last win of the meet.
