Northern Kentucky, Oakland and Wright State Open 2025 Barbasol #HLMBB Championship with First Round Victories

INDIANAPOLIS (March 4, 2025) – The 2025 Barbasol Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship began on Tuesday with Northern Kentucky, Oakland and Wright State earning wins to advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday.

  • No. 6 seed Oakland posted a dominant 96-72 win over No. 11 seed Green Bay.
    • The Golden Grizzlies made 12 three-point field goals, shooting 44.4 percent from beyond the arc.
    • Four Oakland players scored in double figures with Allen Mukeba posting a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
    • Jeremiah Johnson scored 21 points for the Phoenix.
    • Oakland will head to Milwaukee for a 2024 championship game rematch at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on Thursday.
  • No. 7 seed Northern Kentucky recorded a 99-75 victory over No. 10 seed Detroit Mercy in Highland Heights.
    • Four Norse scored 16 or more points led by Dan Gherezgher with 19 points.
    • NKU totaled 26 points off 17 Detroit Mercy turnovers while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor.
    • Orlando Lovejoy led the Titans with 21 points.
    • The Norse will travel to Cleveland State for the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.
  • No. 8 seed Wright State outlasted No. 9 seed IU Indianapolis, 98-85, at the Nutter Center.
    • The Raiders shot 74.1 percent from the floor in the second half and 63.2 percent for the game.
    • Five Raiders scored in double figures, including Jack Doumbia with a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double off the bench.
    • Jarvis Walker paced the Jaguars with 20 points.
    • Wright State will take on top-seeded RMU at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
  • No. 4 seed Youngstown State will take on No. 5 seed Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET at the Beeghly Center in the quarterfinals.
  • Every game of the championship will be carried on ESPN networks with the first round and quarterfinal games streamed on ESPN+. The first semifinal game in Indianapolis will be on ESPNU starting at 7 p.m. ET on March 10 followed by semifinal No. 2 on ESPN2 at 9:30 p.m. ET. The championship game will air on either ESPN or ESPN2 at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 11.
