Horizon League Reveals 2025 #HLGOLF Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (April 24, 2025) – The Horizon League unveiled our 2025 #HLGOLF awards on Thursday as voted on by the League’s head coaches.
Wright State’s Timmy Hollenbeck and Shane Ochs and Youngstown State’s Neeranuch Prajunpanich earned Golfer of the Year honors. Green Bay’s Mason Haupt and YSU’s Valentina Peña Anaya collected Freshman of the Year recognition while Cleveland State’s Brynna Mardis and Northern Kentucky’s Luke Muller are our Sportsmanship Award recipients. WSU’s Conner Lash and Oakland’s Heather Fortushniak were voted Coaches of the Year after leading their teams to championships this week.

- Haupt collected All-Tournament Team honors at the championship, finishing tied for fourth.
- He is the first Phoenix to win Men’s Golf Freshman of the Year since the award began in 2014.
- Peña Anaya earned medalist honors at the YSU Spring Invitational and finished tied for first at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational.
- She is the fifth YSU women’s golfer to win Freshman of the Year since 2016.
- Lash collected his third Coach of the Year honor after his third #HLGOLF title for the Raiders.
- WSU secured the team title by eight shots earlier this week and will represent the League at NCAA Regionals.
- Fortushniak wins Coach of the Year in her first season following Oakland’s #HLGOLF championship victory on Monday.
- Oakland will travel to Columbus, Ohio for NCAA Regionals.
- The Sportsmanship Award recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Sportsmanship is defined as behavior exhibited during competition by student-athletes based on values, respect and integrity.
- NKU head coach David Shearer noted that Muller has “unwavering respect for his fellow competitors” and “plays the game with absolute integrity, always upholding the rules and the spirit of sportsmanship”.
- Cleveland State head coach Steve Weir shared that Mardis “treats her teammates and playing competitors with the utmost respect and always has a positive attitude”.
- Cleveland State, Northern Kentucky and Wright State totaled two All-League selections each to lead the men’s teams while Youngstown State paced the women’s teams with five All-League honorees.
