INDIANAPOLIS (May 22, 2025) – The 2025 #HLBASE championship continued Thursday with Wright State, Milwaukee, and Oakland moving on to Friday’s slate.

  • No. 1 seed Wright State protects home field with 8-2 win over No. 5 seed Oakland.
    • Both teams were held scoreless until a sac-fly from Wright State’s Gus Gregory brought in Conlan Daniel to score in the bottom of the third.
    • The Raiders increased their lead to five in the fourth inning, kicked off by an RBI triple from Luke Arnold.
    • Oakland scored two runs in the fifth inning courtesy of a ground out RBI by Sam Griffith and a throwing error that allowed Trent Rice to cross home plate.
    • Boston Smith homered in the fifth inning, tying the League’s single-season home run record at 22.
    • Oakland’s Carter Hain and Jack Lux both recorded extra-base hits.
    • Wright State pitcher Cam Allen earned the win with a strong 5.0 innings, allowing only five hits, one earned run, and striking out eight batters.
  • No. 3 seed Milwaukee defeats No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky, 8-6.
    • Milwaukee started off hot with back-to-back homers in the first inning from Gabe Roessler and Charlie Marion.
    • With a 3-1 lead entering the fourth inning, the Panthers tacked on three more runs on a walk and two hits by Thomas Otto and Bradyn Horn.
    • Northern Kentucky responded in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer by Gabe Miranda, cutting the lead to 7-4.
    • Miranda finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run.
    • Riley Peterson earned the win on the mound for the Panthers while #HLBASE Reliever of the Year Logan Snow got the save.
    • The Panthers draw No. 1 seed Wright State at 11 a.m. ET on Friday.
  • No. 5 seed Oakland outlasts No. 4 seed Youngstown State, 22-18.
    • The first inning saw six runs between the two teams, with Oakland leading 4-2.
    • The Penguins responded in a big way in the second, with Kyle Fossum sending a three-run shot out of the park for a record-breaking 23rd home run this season.
    • Oakland earned three more in the third from Carter Hain and Trent Rice singles.
    • Both teams traded runs during the fourth and fifth innings and started the sixth tied at 10.
    • Youngstown State used a five-run seventh inning to up their lead to 16-10.
    • Oakland once again fought back, tying the game up at 16 with a six-run eighth inning.
    • Down to their last out, Nathan Beckley lasered a hit out the park to tie the game at 17 and force extra innings.
    • In the 10th, Oakland scored five runs with Ben Clark scoring the eventual game-winning run.
    • Fossum ended the game going 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and four runs scored.
    • Brady Fahnestock claimed the pitching win for the Golden Grizzlies.
    • Oakland will face No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky at 3 p.m. ET on Friday.
