Youngstown State Captures 2024-25 McCafferty Trophy

INDIANAPOLIS (May 29, 2025) – Youngstown State captured its third overall and second outright McCafferty Trophy and this year’s Men’s All-Sports Award while Cleveland State, Milwaukee and RMU shared the Women’s All-Sports Award, the League office announced on Thursday.

- The Penguins added a trip to the men’s basketball title game to earn the Men’s All-Sports Award.
- Cleveland State picked up a League championship in volleyball and regular season titles in softball and women’s tennis to earn a share of the Women’s All-Sports Award.
- Milwaukee posted regular season and tournament titles in women’s soccer to tie for the top spot in the Women’s All-Sports standings.
- RMU collected women’s cross country and softball championships to take a share of the Women’s All-Sports Award.
- Cleveland State was second in the standings with a volleyball championship and a softball regular season title.
- Oakland placed third in the overall standings following titles in men’s and women’s swimming and diving and women’s golf.
- Named in honor of James J. McCafferty, who served as the conference’s first commissioner from 1979-80, the McCafferty Trophy is awarded annually by the Horizon League to a member institution compiling the greatest number of performance points, based on its finish in the League’s 19 championship sports.
- For the sports of men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, softball and baseball, points are awarded based on combined regular-season (60 percent) and championship (40 percent) finishes. For all other sports, points are based on performance in the League championships.
