Horizon League Announces 2025 #HLSB All-League Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (May 6, 2025) – The Horizon League revealed our 2025 #HLSB All-League awards on Tuesday. The awards were voted on by the League’s head coaches.
 
Green Bay’s Sara Ebner and IU Indy’s Molly Kable earned Player of the Year honors and Cleveland State’s Melissa Holzopfel was named Pitcher of the Year. IU Indy’s Morgan Gilbert was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year while Ebner and RMU’s Mary Brant share Freshman of the Year honors. CSU’s Amy Kyler was voted as the Coach of the Year and Brooke Albaugh earned the Sportsmanship Award for the Vikings.

  • Ebner is the third Phoenix to earn Player of the Year honors in the last three seasons.
    • The redshirt freshman hit .432 in League play with 35 hits and a League-leading 10 doubles.
  • Kable is the first Jaguar to collect #HLSB Player of the Year recognition.
    • The junior led the League in batting average (.494), on-base percentage (.553), hits (40) and RBIs (34) in #HLSB contests.
  • Holzopfel is the first Viking since 2010 to earn Pitcher of the Year honors.
    • The senior paced the League with 15 #HLSB wins, 156 strikeouts and 117.1 innings pitched in League action.
  • Gilbert is the second Jaguar to be named Defensive Player of the Year in the past two seasons.
    • The IU Indy shortstop paced the League with 55 assists in #HLSB contests.
  • Brant is the first student-athlete from RMU to be named Freshman of the Year.
    • The Colonial newcomer hit .325 in #HLSB games with a .610 slugging percentage, 22 RBIs and six home runs.
  • CSU head coach Amy Kyler was chosen as Coach of the Year after leading the Vikings to the regular season title with a 17-7 #HLSB record.
  • The Sportsmanship Award recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Sportsmanship is defined as behavior exhibited during competition by student-athletes based on values, respect and integrity.   
    • “Brooke is a team leader and displays good sportsmanship at all times both on and off the field. She is always setting a great example for her younger teammates and is always there to help when others need a helping hand,” noted the Cleveland State staff.
