Horizon League Announces 2025 Outdoor #HLTF Alfreeda Goff Athletes of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS (May 8, 2025) – The Horizon League revealed our 2025 Outdoor #HLTF Alfreeda Goff Athletes of the Year on Thursday. The awards were voted on by the League’s head coaches.
Oakland’s Ja-Van Poole was awarded the Horizon League Alfreeda Goff Outdoor Track and Field Men’s Athlete of the Year and Wright State’s Cierra Lively was selected as the Alfreeda Goff Outdoor Track and Field Women’s Athlete of the Year.

- In his first year of competition since 2021, Poole has excelled on the track breaking Oakland’s school record in the 400-meter hurdles twice this season. His time of 50.04 ranks not only first in the Horizon League, but ranks fourth in the NCAA East Region and 12th in all of Division I.
- This year’s Indoor Champion in the high jump, Lively has continued her success into the outdoor season. She has garnered five first place finishes on the outdoor campaign, including a win at the Duke Invitational. Her top mark of 1.80 meters is tied for the best in the Horizon League, eighth in the NCAA East Regional and 25th in Division I.
- For 16 years, Alfreeda Goff was a member of the Horizon League team serving as Senior Associate Commissioner before retiring in 2015. She worked tirelessly to enhance the student-athlete championship experience, including track & field athletes. Prior to entering athletic administration, Alfreeda was the track and field coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
