CINCINNATI (April 24, 2026) – Day one of the #HLTennis Championships at the Lindner Family Tennis Center featured Belmont and Tennessee State moving on in men’s play while Cleveland State and Youngstown State advanced in the women’s bracket.
 
Men’s Quarterfinal No. 1
No. S3 Belmont 4, No. N2 Cleveland State 1
  • In a composed double showing, Cleveland State secured the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
  • As the match pivoted to singles play, the Belmont found a groove thanks to the No. 3 position play of Charlie Robin bested the Viking’s Nico Jamison, 6-4, 6-2.
  • Stefan Vedovelli (No. 3 singles) and Morgan Woodson (No. 4 singles) were victorious by identical 6-3, 6-3 scores for Belmont over CSU’s Lincoln Battle and Maxime Aremon, respectively.
  • Belmont’s Sabi Roi fought a tough battle to prevail over Carl Gedlitschka at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
  • By virtue of their win, the Bruins advance to play No. S1 seed, Tennessee Tech, on Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m. ET.
 
Men’s Quarterfinal No. 2
No. S2 Tennessee State 4, No. N3 IU Indianapolis 3
  • Tennessee State jumped out on the Jaguars with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles.
  • Tennessee State’s Mete Koseoglu and Taj Hibbert managed a 6-2 win in the No. 1 position over IU Indy’s Brandon Pham and Konner Gunwall.
  • At No. 2 doubles for Tennessee State, James Alder Germinal and Tatenda Mutetwa defeated Owen Nguyen and CJ Kryscio of IU Indy, 6-4.
  • Singles play between the two programs was charged, neither giving an inch. However, Tennessee State thrived thanks to late-set shot-making.
  • That was evident at No. 3 singles as James Alder Germinal survived the first set for the Tigers vs. IU Indy’s Eli Mercer, ultimately prevailing, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
  • Nicholas Adamec handled business at No. 5 singles for Tennessee State knocking off Pumiphat Sukkho for the Jaguars, 6-2, 6-3.
  • Christopher Bogelin, playing at No. 6 singles for TSU, found the edge late in set three, eventually beating IU Indy’s Jai Dutta, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
  • Tennessee State continues their championship aspirations in the semifinals on Saturday, April 25, at 11 a.m. ET against No. N1 Youngstown State.
 
Women’s Quarterfinal No. 1
No. 4 Cleveland State 4, No. 5 IU Indy 2
  • CSU worked swiftly in doubles play to take the point. The No. 1 team of Ella Franz and Melliz Petkova defeated IU Indy’s Elle Kotre and Kally Kadzinski 6-1.
  • At No. 3 doubles, Jenna Redmile and Laura Tapia matched their teammates score of 6-1 to down IU Indy’s Grace Lampman and Hanan Awale.
  • The Viking’s duo of Anna Mancino and Leah Geisz led the Jag’s Cali Sokolowski and Sara Jankovic, 5-2, prior to the doubles point being decided.
  • Jenna Redmile efficiently defeated IU Indy’s Chloe Bailey, 6-2, 6-3 to get things started at No. 5 singles.
  • In the No. 1 slot, CSU’s Ella Franz kept the momentum going with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over IU Indy’s Kally Kadzinski.
  • Anna Mancino helped the Viking’s cause by defeating IU Indy’s Cali Sokolowski at No. 2 singles.
  • Leah Geisz of CSU led IU Indy’s Bella Duncan, 2-6, 6-6 (7-3), 5-1 at No. 6 singles as the match point was secured for the the Vikings.
  • The CSU quarterfinal win sets up a semifinal clash with the top seed Oakland Golden Grizzlies at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 25.
 
Women’s Quarterfinal No. 2
No. 3 Youngstown State 4, No. 6 Northern Kentucky 0
  • Youngstown State snagged the doubles point as the Penguins’ No. 1 and No. 3 teams overwhelmed Northern Kentucky.
  • In the top slot, Youngstown State’s Hanna Telzynska and Yoana Dudova paired to defeat Northern Kentucky’s Sydney Zakic, 6-2.
  • At No. 3 doubles, the Penguins defeated the Norse, 6-1, with Lorena Cedeno and Sarah Partida defeating Aaditi Bhat and Catharina Cardoso.
  • In the No. 1 singles match, YSU’s Hanna Telzynska knocked off NKU’s Sydney Zakic, 6-1, 6-2.
  • Yesenyia Ovccharova picked up a win at No. 3 singles for the Penguins by beating Northern Kentucky’s Alyssa Cameron 6-1, 6-0.
  • Line Greyling helped clinch a spot in the semis with an easy win at No. 5 singles for the Penguins. She beat Haley Slay, 6-3, 6-1.
  • Youngstown State’s Lorena Cedeno (No. 2 singles) and Sarah Partida (No. 4 singles) led NKU’s Darya Gneidina and Aaditi Bhat before the Penguins swept the Norse 4-0.
  • Youngstown State’s win advances the Penguins to Semifinal Saturday and a date with the No. 2 seed Milwaukee at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 25.
