Youngstown State Secures 2025-26 McCafferty Trophy

INDIANAPOLIS (June 3, 2026) – Youngstown State captured its third overall and second outright McCafferty Trophy along with this year’s Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Awards, the League office announced on Wednesday.

- Youngstown State captured League titles in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field and women’s tennis this year.
- The Penguins added a regular season title in softball, a North Division regular season title in men’s tennis and a share of the women’s tennis regular season crown along with runner-up finishes at the women’s basketball, women’s golf and men’s tennis championships.
- Oakland earned League championships in men’s and women’s swimming and diving and women’s golf this year to finish second in the McCafferty standings.
- Third-place Milwaukee posted a regular season and tournament title in women’s soccer along with a baseball tournament title.
- Northern Kentucky finished fourth with a softball tournament title and a regular season title in volleyball.
- Wright State rounded out the top five, collecting League championships in men’s basketball, men’s golf and volleyball with regular season titles in baseball and men’s basketball.
- Named in honor of James J. McCafferty, who served as the conference’s first commissioner from 1979-80, the McCafferty Trophy is awarded annually by the Horizon League to a member institution compiling the greatest number of performance points, based on its finish in the League’s 19 championship sports.
- For the sports of men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, softball and baseball, points are awarded based on combined regular-season (60 percent) and championship (40 percent) finishes. For all other sports, points are based on performance in the League championships.
