2019 #HLBASE Championship Central
The 2019 #HLBASE championship was hosted at Wright State for the second-straight year after the Raiders earned the regular season title for the third time in four seasons. UIC secured the No. 2 seed with a League record of record of 18-11 and hold the tiebreaker over Milwaukee with after going 4-1 against the Panthers during the HL season.

On day one of the championship, the top seeds prevailed as No. 4 Northern Kentucky used a ninth-inning comeback to defeat No. 5 Oakland and No. 3 Milwaukee defeated No. 6 Youngstown State, 12-3, to eliminate the Golden Grizzlies and Penguins.

Day two of the championship saw the top-seeds take the field for the first time with Wright State defeating NKU, 15-3, and the Flames winning a slugfest over MKE, 18-10, to advance to Friday’s games. The Panthers survived the elimination game against the Norse, 9-1, to make it to the third day of action.

Day three of the #HLBASE championship began with the top two seeds battling for a spot in the championship game with UIC upending the host Raiders in extra innings. Milwaukee would then punch its ticket to Saturday by winning a back-and-forth game and eliminating Wright State with its second loss of the day.

On the final day of the #HLBASE Championship, UIC needed just one win over the Panthers for the title, while Milwaukee would need to defeat the Flames twice to take the trophy.

Milwaukee jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but the Flames battled back to tie the game behind a Ryan Hampe home run. UIC then grabbed a two-run advantage but the Panthers made it 5-5 in the sixth thanks to a two-run single by shortstop Trevor Schwecke. This was UIC’s day however as Hampe blasted a solo home run for the go-ahead run.

The Flames put an exclamation point on the weekend as Thomas Smart made the play of the championship to seal the title for UIC.

UIC claimed its second #HLBASE title in three seasons.

UIC is the #HLBASE Champions! ????
